About the blogger

Jesse Let’s see – what can I say about myself besides the fact that I’m a geek?

Nope, that about sums it up. The type of geek that has a server rack in his basement and when presented with the idea of hosting this for free somewhere else, goes out and spends the money on a Dell 2650 server (a little out of date, I know), loads VMware to it, connects it to a SAN, and viola.

No? More?

I was born in a little town on a little island in the middle of a big ocean.. (Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii for those who care) I had a fairly normal childhood, and a rather abnormal adolescence, and am in the process of having a wonderfully average adulthood.

I got into technology when a friend suggested I apply to work at America On-Line’s call center in Tucson, Arizona in 1996. Little did I know that that puny little online-service (I still refuse to call them an ISP) was going to grow up to be the giant it is now. (Obviously I didn’t, I left in 1997 to take a job as a computer operator figuring those stock options they gave me when I was hired on would never amount to anything) (footnote – most of the people who were hired when I was retired around 1999/2000 as milionares – so much for my future as a fortuneteller)

I’ve enjoyed my work though, and when I had the chance I decided to take the show on the road, so to speak, and became a travelling consultant. That led me to some interesting places, Disney WorldWide, (trying to figure out how to put 400+ Terabytes to tape every night), The Library of Congress, and most notably, the USDA facility in New Orleans, LA just two short months before Hurricane Katrina tried to turn it into New Venice, LA.

That was the most visibile my work had ever been. Two days before the hurricane hit, they failed over to their DR site in Pennsylvania and remained up and running throughout.

Some other of my other more notable accomplishments:

Lifebridge Health Systems ( Press Release )
Library of Congress – Data migration and SRDF implementation
United States House of Representatives ( NAS implementation )
United States Department of Agriculture (SRDF Implementation and data migration)
Department of the Navy (Datacenter Stand-up)
Disney Worldwide Services (Datacenter Stand-up & BCV Backup Implementation)

Recently laid off from a small and almost defunct private student loan company in Sterling, Virginia, I now work for a great guy – Me.  I’m doing the direct consulting thing now, and couldn’t be happier.  (Although I could be more rested)
Well those are the highlights. :)
